Information CampaignSACTAP’s information dissemination activities target vulnerable and trafficked persons, law enforcement and government officials, and the general public, including users of the services of trafficked persons. Campaigns in source countries of Southern Africa are aimed at preventing vulnerable persons from becoming victims of trafficking, whilst in South Africa, the campaign aims to raise general awareness and advertise its country wide toll free help line number. This 24-hour helpline, 0800 555 999, was established in 2004, and provides individuals in South Africa with access to counselors that have been trained to respond to calls ranging from general enquiries to requests for assistance for, and from, trafficked persons. Print CampaignQuarterly poster campaigns are a key tool in IOM efforts to combat human trafficking. Awareness raising messages are displayed on posters, flyers and stickers, which are distributed to key locations throughout South Africa and the region. RadioPreventative radio adverts running on many of the
region’s local languages have formed a key part of IOM regional
awareness campaigns. In 2007, a radio drama warning individuals about
the tactics of traffickers will also air in the region, and Mozambique
will be producing a radio magazine show on safe travel. Read

TheatreAs part of its awareness raising efforts in South
Africa, IOM commissioned a Portuguese and Shangaan language theatre
production aimed at raising awareness of human trafficking among the
Mozambican migrant communities. The play toured Gauteng’s mining
areas and community venues in Johannesburg, as well as key transit points
for Mozambican migrants in South Africa. Read

to speak as guests on radio and television on the topic of human trafficking,
