2007-2008 Campaign

As part of its information and awareness campaign, SACTAP has instituted a quarterly poster campaign which is released in conjunction with the Eye on Human Trafficking bulletin. Awareness raising messages are displayed on posters, flyers and bumper stickers, which are distributed to key locations throughout South Africa and the region. Distribution includes border posts, immigration offices, police stations, shelters and other relevant NGO’s, faith based organizations and refugee centres.

Materials in South Africa, which has been identified by IOM as predominantly a destination country, focus on victim assistance and encourage people to call the national help line number to report cases or seek help. Materials in the region’s source countries focus on prevention and encourage individuals to call their nearest IOM office for information or assistance about safe migration. Posters and flyers have been produced in English, French, Portuguese, Zulu, Bemba, Shangaan, Swahili and Shona.

IOM print campaigns are posted on billboards, litterbins, and bus shelters in key locations in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Additionally, SACTAP’s regional campaign has been posted on billboards at the Ferroviario taxi terminal in Maputo and at the Ressano Garcia border post between Mozambique and South Africa. Previous campaigns have also been visible on cross-border mini-bus taxis travelling between Johannesburg and other major centres in neighbouring countries.
