Regional Radio Ads

In 2005, SACTAP commissioned a series of public services announcements (PSAs) which were broadcast on 17 community radio stations in Mozambique. As part of a skills development initiative, IOM and Community Media for Development (CMFD) worked together with a group of young Mozambicans living in South Africa to produce the adverts. The youth group, Altertos da Vidas, wrote and recorded five radio adverts aimed at raising awareness of the risk of being trafficked, and urging listeners to “get the facts” before accepting job offers in South Africa by contacting the IOM office in Maputo.

To read more about the Alertos da Vidas project see Eye on Human Trafficking Issue 7.

The radio ads have now been translated and adapted by other IOM missions where SACTAP operates, and are being aired on over 27 stations throughout the region. The adverts have been recorded in English, French, Portuguese, Shangaan, Chimanica, Shona, Ndebele, Kalanga and Venda. Individuals are encouraged to contact the relevant IOM office or help line number for information or assistance.

Radio Drama

In the latter part of 2007, IOM will be producing a 13 part radio drama in Portuguese and Shangaan for broadcast in Mozambique. The scripts will then be adapted by the other country missions where SACTAP operates, for broadcast in Angola, DRC, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Watch this site for more updates on this project.
